How Doctors Got Into the Torture Business
Some of the medical involvement in torture defies belief. In one of the few actual logs we have of a high-level interrogation, that of Mohammed al-Qhatani(first reported in TIME), doctors were present during the long process of constant sleep deprivation over 55 days, and they induced hypothermia and the use of threatening dogs, among other techniques. According to Miles, Medics had to administer three bags of medical saline to Qhatani — while he was strapped to a chair — and aggressively treat him for hypothermia in the hospital. They then returned him to his interrogators. Click the image below to read more...

The FBI-CIA Entrapment Tag Team
A Minnesota man, Ilyas Ali, stands accused of selling a whole lot of hashish and heroin so he might buy Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and sell them to the dreaded al-Qaeda who would, of course, take out 747s packed with kindergarten children and grandmothers. Ali, a naturalized US citizen born in India, and two Pakistanis will be sent to San Diego to face charges. But...Ali says he was set-up by FBI agents! It was a good old-fashioned American ethic that ensnared the hapless Ali -- a greedy and unchecked desire for money. After $100,000 was stolen from his St. Paul, Minnesota, grocery store, Ali was befriended by two men he later identified as FBI agents; one claimed to be a drug dealer and the other a weapons specialist. As the drugs-for-weapons plan matured, Ali told an AP reporter from a jail, the FBI agents paid to fly him twice to Pakistan and once to Hong Kong. The agents said they would finance the whole sordid affair. "We just said OK, OK, because we wanted the money," Ali told Dirk Beveridge of AP. He had no drug connections and claims not to know anybody in al-Qaeda. Moreover, he says there is a tape of his conversation with the FBI agents. "There is absolutely nothing in that tape," Ali said. "We didn't mention the Stingers. The only one who mentioned the Stingers was the federal agent." Click the image below to read more...

Cameroon Girls Battle Breast Ironing
26% of Cameroonian women undergo a procedure known as ‘breast ironing’ in which they are held down as girls as their breasts are literally flattened to make them less attractive to boys. It is usually carried out by mothers often, it seems, out of concern that a girl’s educational chances might be ruined by pregnancy(and probably fears of HIV as well). Hence the prevalence of breast ironing may be related to the relative economic importance of schooling in a deeply impoverished society.Whatever the root, and cultural relativism aside, it is a repellent practice – yet a society which practices this mass form of sexual repression and violence receives no censure internationally.

Class Warfare: The Minimum Wage Goes Down
The GOP just shafted the working people of America. By rejecting an attempt to raise the minimum wage, the Republican-controlled Senate showed that it is far more interested in lining the pockets of its campaign contributors than – as Paul Krugman wrote in a New York Times op-ed on Monday – arriving at a "new New Deal" and working to "rebuild our middle class." The 52-46 vote was eight short of the 60 needed for approval. The measure drew the support of eight Republicans (four of them are up for re-election in the fall.) From Civil Rights to Silver Rights
Jackson, Mississippi entrepreneur, business consultant and author offers insight, analysis and solutions for African Americans to create a legacy of wealth.

Today’s African American leaders occasionally motivate and instigate, but few have the foresight of author and entrepreneur, James Covington. He uses his experience as the CEO of two successful Internet businesses and the president of an information and technology consulting firm to bring wealth building strategies to the African American community in his book, “From Civil Rights to Silver Rights.”

Covington challenges African Americans to embrace Silver Rights (wealth creation) as the dominant issue of the 21st Century and not Civil Rights. He calls on Black leaders, particularly in business and politics, to embrace wealth creation as the focus of a new movement for African Americans.

From Civil Rights to Silver Rights” highlights the challenges and accomplishments of the 19th and 20th Century trailblazers. Covington reminds readers of the painful cost of slave labor with hopes of motivating a new era of torchbearers to seek wealth creation with the same passion and vigor that their ancestors embraced in their fight for freedom.

From Civil Rights to Silver Rights” acknowledges the contributions that civil rights leaders have made during the last decades of the 20th Century. However, Covington is calling for new, effective leadership to engage this new struggle for wealth.

From Civil Rights to Silver Rights” offers tangible solutions. Covington’s Circle of Wealth principle encompasses seven players who must drive the process of wealth creation in the African American community. The book introduces readers to a unique business organization with the power to create a new African American business class and perhaps a new generation of millionaires.

Former President Bill Clinton’s Agriculture Secretary, Mike Espy had this to say in the book’s foreword.

In the most appropriate turn of a phrase, my longtime friend, James Covington, has rendered an invaluable service to the African American community, and as such, his book From Civil Rights to Silver Rights is a must read. To everyone concerned about generating wealth in the black community and arming the next generation with the tools necessary to create wealth and prosperity, this book should be on their reading list.”

From Civil Rights to Silver Rights” is now available online. Click the image below to purchase your copy today.
