How long have you been modeling?
I have been modeling since November of 2002.
What made you decide to pursue a career in modeling?
While I was looking at different sites that feature models, it occurred to me, that if they are out there doing it, there is no reason why
> I couldn't be. Aside from that, I think almost everyone want to be "famous". Not that I am a super star (or even close), but the modeling, and the fan mail, and being recognized at the mall now and then...things like that, does give me a certain sense of celebrity. I get a kick out of it.
What impact has modeling had on your personal life?
Aside from the financial perks of being a model, I think that being a nude model has helped to mold me into a more confident person...a more "free" person. I know that many people might assume the opposite but I think it's had a tremendous positive effect on my personal life. Being able to run my own website, set my own schedule, pick and choose who I want to and don't want to work with, allows me to have a huge amount of control over my life...and to me that is what's important. To me...that is what true freedom is.
Overall, what has been your opinion of the modeling industry as a whole?
The modeling industry is, to me, no different that anything else in life. You come across good people with good intentions, and then you come across people whom you prefer not to associate with, and if you do, you wish you hadn't. That is true with webmasters, photographers, other models, and even some fans. I have found that in this business, the best thing to do, is to simply help each other out. One hand feeds the other...at an arm's length. I can honestly say though, that I have met and done business with more good, positive people, than I have negative or "bad" people. If that wasn't true, I would have made a career change already.
What do you intend to gain or get out of your career in modeling?
Recognition. I want people to know who I am when they see me. I would like to, someday soon, be in Playboy or Penthouse...just lots of print work. I would definately like to see myself in some music videos. I would also like to get myself into some films (non-adult)...even if it's a smaller part...I want to start acting.
What are some of the projects you're currently working on?
Well a constant for me is maintaining and improving my own site, www.ZenaidaFlava.com. Right now I am getting together with a photographer to work on a 2005 calendar that features many different beautiful, ethnic, curvy women. Hopefully that calendar will be distributed in stores nation wide. If that goes well, perhaps I'll have my own calendar for 2006. My company, Zen Media Productions, is designing a new website for a model who contacted me wanting to be featured on my site. After taking a good look at her, I saw that she has all the qualities that makes a successful internet model, so we offered her a site of her own. She agreed and the ball is rolling...hopefully her site will be up and running soon. Aside from that, I have other things that I am working on, but I can't mention quite yet.
Name some things you couldn't live without?
Hmmm. My cell phone, sun glasses, mascara, and Propel fitness water(I've become addicted to it)!
Tell us one thing about yourself that tends to shock people once they get to know you personally?
People who know me as a model are surprised that I am down to earth but I am very business minded. Frankly a lot of girls that are my age and in this business are in it for a quick dollar, and I look beyond that. I own my site, I run my site, and I make business decisions that will make a positive impact on me and my company, not just now, but also in the future. I look at the big picture and not just the immediate rewards. On the flip side, people who don't know that I model are not surprised that I do, until I say that I do a lot of nude work. I think that people have a big misconception about "that kind of girl". The average person things that you have to be promiscuous, snobby, conceited, or just plain dumb to be a nude model. So people are very surprised after getting to know ME, that I don't fit that stereotype.
What would you consider your greatest strength?
I have found that my greatest strength is the ability to move on. Being able to take in negative things, absorbing them, learning from them,
then letting them go...and moving on has been something that has helped me in every aspect of my life.
What would you consider your greatest physical asset?
ASSet. I think that says it all. No really...obviously my rear end is what's the most noticeable and sticks out (literally), but I like my eyes because they're big and a light brown, and I like my hair because it's long and healthy.
Give us an example of what you consider the perfect first date?
I think a perfect first date, is the one that isn't perfect. The date where you had a great time, because something wrong or silly happened or was said...something that makes you never forget that date and how good of a time you had despite it not being perfect.
Regarding the gentlemen you date, name one quality they must possess and why?
Honesty. I have a really big heart and I'm not a close minded person. I can forgive and understand almost anything someone has done, but not if they aren't honest with me. I don't like to know about things long after the fact, especially if it directly effects me. I'm really big on monogamy, so for me finding an honest person is the most important thing.
When a man attempts to approach you in public, give us some advice on how it should be done?
Well in this case, there is a wrong thing and a right thing to do. Don't be full of your self...be your self. Being confident and not
arrogant is the key. I am big on guys with a sense of humor...I like a man who can make me laugh and knows how to take a joke. Ask me my name, how I am...like I said...be yourself. A man will impress me more by not trying to impress me. Lastly, never "psssssstt", or
"ayyyyyye girl" me...it drives me nuts...and I won't talk to you...LOL.
Give us a description of a normal evening at home with you?
I'm a homebody, so a normal evening with me usually consists of preparing a really nice dinner (which I do almost every night), and have a
couple of glasses of wine (I like a Zinfandel or a Chardonnay). Then I either listen to music, read, or watch a movie. I really enjoy being a
couch potato at times, so I'm really into movies...renting them, watching them, buying them...watching them again...lol. I try to get my
exercising, work, etc., done before four or five o'clock, so I can just relax. I'm not always sitting at home though. I love to dance, so I do have my girls night out now and then. We'll go out to a night club, or play pool, or go to a "gentleman's club" and just be silly and have fun.
What are some of your other interest outside of modeling?
Aside from being the model, I (my company) also plans to design and run other modeling sites. Some personal interests of mine are writing poetry, singing, drawing...I'm a pretty artistic person. I would love to someday be featured in a movie, or in a theater production of some sort. I also like to cook and work out too (luckily because I always enjoy the eating after the cooking).
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Well I'm already a business owner and a home owner...so I've gotten the whole "American dream" thing out of way...lol. I'm too young and
too busy to settle down and have a family. So, I think within the next few years, I'm going to concentrate on making the most of what I'm doing with my modeling and also continue making things happen for other models. After that...who knows...there is an endless amount of opportunity out there.
What advice would you give to young women considering a career in modeling?
Just be realistic about who you are and what your capable of. Not everyone can be a runway model. Not everyone can be successful at being an
internet model, or video honey...and that's ok. The most important thing to me, is being comfortable with what I'm doing, and at the end of the day, being comfortable in my own skin. So I suppose my advise is...know what you want, and know what your willing, and not willing to do, to get there and then follow through. Rejection is common, but you can't let that bring you down or stop you from pursuing your dreams. And lastly, be sure to surround yourself with people you trust and be careful doing business with people that you don't know or haven't worked with before. Like anything else...you get the good along with the bad.
