How long have you been modeling?

I've been modeling for about a year now.

What made you decide to pursue a career in modeling?

It’s not a 9 to 5 job, I get to travel, meet different people, and plus, I wanted to model since I opened my first Vogue magazine. It was fun playing dress up then and its fun now.

What impact has modeling had on your personal life?

Right now, my life is jam packed with modeling, school, work, and other opportunities. I don’t get to speak to my family and friends as much as I use to, but I work it out so that I do go partying and have fun as much as we used to. In terms of trying to balance school and modeling, it’s hard, but I do try my best to keep up with my grades as well as attending to castings. I am somewhat focused.

Overall, what has been your opinion of the modeling industry as a whole?

The modeling industry has its ups and its downs, but you have to adjust to it. Castings can be hell, waiting on line forever just for the casting director can see you for only 2 minutes. There are haters that try to put you and your career down, but I try to stay on point.

What do you intend to gain or get out of your career in modeling?

Pursuing modeling is my first goal; I eventually want to get into acting and music. I believe modeling is a good start up way to meet people in the entertainment industry.

What are some of the projects you're currently working on?

I will be in the next Smooth Girl issue so look out for that in May 2005. Other projects include my personal calendar and members section on my website www.shaunafaith.com. Also, I am doing some commercial modeling as well; you can check me out on the Modell’s Sporting Goods Catalog. Other than that, I am taking new pictures for my book and traveling back and forth to and from Miami and New York for work.

What are your turn-ons?

Carvel Ice Cream with the Chocolate crunches inside and fast cars. :)

What are your turn-offs?

Foul smells and negative energy.

Name some things you couldn't live without?

My cell phones, my laptop, and my 'TO DO' book.

How would you describe your overall personality?

I'm always positive, most of the time content, sometimes lazy, however motherly and demanding.

Tell us one thing about yourself that tends to shock people once they get to know you personally?

I will almost never get mad or upset unless someone physically tries to hurt me, my friends, or family. I used to be in my High School Marching Band playing the French horn. Who ever said band members are geeks? I used to teach piano when I was 15 years old. I am still scared of the dark. I almost never curse, one exception was the time I went to a casting, and I had to pretend to scream and yell a guy who just cheated on me. I said the F-word. I really wanted the part. It seemed to work, because I did get a call back.

What would you consider your greatest strength?

I'd have to say that 'patience' is my greatest strength.

What would you consider your greatest physical asset?

That would have to be my eyes.

What signals do you give to a man when you want him to make the first move?

A seductive smile.

What signals do you give a man when you want him to stay away?

Not responding to any of his comments or gestures and avoiding any eye contact.

What is the one thing you wish all men knew about women?

Shoes are accessories and accessories are mandatory. ;)

Give us an example of what you'd consider the perfect first date?

Enjoying each other's company and conversation at a theme park.

Regarding the gentlemen you date, name one quality they must possess and why?

He must be smarter than me. I like men that can teach me a few things. I consider myself the-know-it-all girl, but when a man I am dating can challenge me, it’s a turn on.

What are your opinions on the state of the black male today?

I believe the black male today is making big moves becoming professional business men and not just professional basketball players. Due to the many doors that are opening, (in comparison to the past decades), companies are accepting highly educated black men, either street or book intellect. However, I still believe that the jails still hold many black men captive like a 21st century slave treatment, the numbers of blacks will eventually go down in America. Once they have more chances to have what many fortunate people have, they will have their time to shine.

When a gentleman attempts to approach you in public, give us some advice on how it should be done?

Please say hello first, like a formal greeting, no pssssssssst…mami where you going, lemme holla at you…you know...the typical BS. Be respectful.

Give us a description of a normal evening at home with you?

I'm normally on the computer and/or watching movies.

Overall today theres a lot of talk regarding sisters and the whole bisexual movement, if you want to call it that. What are your personal feelings regarding this rising 'phenomenon' among black women?

For women who are open about it. It’s a free country, I would never judge them.

What are your thoughts regarding brothers on the DL(Down Low)? This seems to be a growing issue with our sisters today.

I think it is disgusting if the brothers intend to hide it from their girlfriends and wives. I read an article a while ago about these brothers on the DL, mostly came from jail. And when they came out, they still practiced homosexuality. Nowadays, pussy isn’t good enough for some brothers anymore.

Are there any current issues that the African-American community's dealing with that causes you the most concern?

I am still bothered by racial profiling. Especially in New Jersey, statistically 8 out of 10 tens, a minority male driver is pulled over than a white male. Some people still think it’s cool to bring down a brother for no reason.

I've noticed that you've appeared in several music videos before, so do you have any thoughts or opinions on the way a lot of hip-hop videos portray our sisters?

For background reference, the music videos I have done were feature roles whereas I wasn’t dancing half naked in front of a rapper or anything like that like “Tip Drill”. However, I think some hip hop videos don’t portray sisters in a negative way. Nowadays, more and more black actresses are getting into the video scene. I consider it admiration of the black woman. On the other hand, the drop it-like-it-hot hip hop music videos, whereas the sisters dress half naked on set…I believe it’s the girls own fault if they to betray herself like, if the woman want to dress like that and portray themselves like that…that’s them…not the director, on set, a model has their limits, and wont do anything they don’t want to do, are I am probably speaking for my self.

What are some of your other interest outside of modeling?

I am into music, right now I play the piano/organ, flute, and French horn. I grew up in a Marching Band, so that’s where my passion is. I love to dance as well. Other than those I am always on the internet doing a whole lot of nothing.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I see myself in my home reading scripts for my second movie, producing some crazy music in my studio, and writing/composing my first orchestrated piece.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in modeling?

Try to avoid the scams of photographers trying to get you naked and agents trying to steal your money.
