How did the idea for Dynasty Modeling come about?
I have always wanted to own my own business. I am also a licensed barber but that just wasn’t enough. Between looking at all of the Mens Magazines that are out now like King, Smooth, Blackmens, FHM and others I felt that I could develop my own spin on the Model and Entertainment Industry.
What is your position within the Dynasty Modeling project?
I am the Creator, CEO, Owner, and one of the photographers for the Company.
How has Dynasty Modeling grown or changed since its inception?
Originally Dynasty Entertainment, which is the parent to Dynasty Modeling, was going to involve only modeling and video coverage. In a short time the overall company idea has grown to include Model Management, Event Coverage, Event Casting, Model promotions, Photography, Graphic Design and soon to expand into an online magazine.
How large is the team that currently assists you with running this project?
Dynasty Modeling consists of 12 people right now. We are always looking for good motivated people to join my team and I am easily reached thru http://www.dynastymodeling.com.
During an average work week, how many hours do you spend working on the Dynasty Modeling project?
Right now I would have to say between 30-50 hours per week is devoted to developing my company. It is a job that I am thinking about always even if I am not actually sitting at the computer working on. I actually dream about Dynasty business as well.
What's the most challenging part of maintaining or operating your website?
Trying to outdo myself with our last event, photo session, and to not follow the same trend that modeling is taking in the hip hop I want to provide different aspects for our viewers to stay interested.
What are your goals at the current time for Dynasty Modeling?
Our next step is restructuring our company to function more as a magazine. We are adding more topics to HYPERLINK http://www.dynastymodeling.com with our redesign. I am adding our Male models section to our site. Hair Care, Fashion, Entertainment, and a Sex Column will be coming as well.
What are some other projects you're working on, or anticipate working on in the future?
Future projects include branching into other areas of modeling work, fashion shows, more print work, and our own Dynasty Design team, continuing in our Casting Assignment for model promotion.
What part of operating Dynasty Modeling gives you the most enjoyment?
Completing a difficult assignment then looking at the finished product and seeing how it developed from the beginning stages.
Do you work a regular 9 to 5 job or is Dynasty Modeling your primary project?
I am a full-time licensed barber during the day at Jiggy Styles Hair Salon in Orlando, Fl. Dynasty Modeling currently is tied for 1st in time and attention until I have become satisfied with our growth and development.
What's your opinion of the industry regarding ethnic models today?
I think that ethnic models still have to overcome many boundaries due to race. But with the success of models like Tyra Banks, Melyssa Ford in recent years, I can see more opportunities opening up. Tyra Banks took the more mainstream approach from Runway Model to having a Syndicated show. Melyssa Ford went from Video Vixen to being a Co-host of BET Style. Models should know that there are opportunities to break in the industry and to become an established model. Models who are just starting should know success is achievable with determination, but they should remember modeling will not last forever and should take every shot at other goals.
If you could start this project all over again, from scratch, what would you do differently?
I really wouldn’t do much differently, I take my experiences so far as my learning curve. You have to have the negative experiences to go with the positives to really learn and appreciate what you go thru. I just have to remind myself everything comes at it own time and pace.
What are the positive and negatives you've experienced when working with models?
Negatives: Models that are undependable, and don’t know how to be professional.
Positives: Finding a Diamond in the rough, at a local spot like a restaurant, movies, or walking down the street. Another is when a model has excitement and a great desire to succeed, and will make needed sacrifices to achieve those goals.
What does Dynasty Modeling offer it's visitors that they won't necessarily or can't find on similiar websites?
Dynasty Modeling is trying to offer a different look. Were not trying to just be T& A but give you an edge to our shoots. We offer a wide range of styles. We show you behind the scene looks at our casting assignments and other events that we cover. The redesign of our site will soon be complete and make Dynasty Modeling more of an online magazine dealing with more area of entertainment.
Are there any current issues being dealt with today that cause you the most concern?
I would say just trying to market Dynasty Modeling would be the biggest issue. It's something I feel never ends and if your not doing it you should be. That is probably the biggest issue at this time.
Tell us some of things you couldn't live without?
Right now I cant live without my Internet and laptop. If I go a day without checking email or checking my site it feels very weird. I am also a big sports fan so I have to catch Sportscenter at least once a day. Probably the most important would be women. I love women.
What advice would you give to people looking into creating or starting a project similiar to Dynasty Modeling?
I would say to be ready to work hard and realize your initial vision for your company may change several times and they should just learn to adapt to the changes. Most say to have a business plan, but keep in mind your goals, also that if your not the one handling the business it may not get done the way you want. Be afraid of failure, have a chip on your shoulder about failing or giving up on yourself. You need to have extra motivating forces and goals to keep you going.
